Hah! I don't know about being the only resource provider since there are a lot of them out there who are very creative, but I appreciate the kind comment. :)
Okay... this is probably going to be a severely dumb question, but I'm gonna ask anyway.
I've been wanting to use some textures on my icons, and downloaded some from someone else's journal, but I cannot figure out how to load them/import them/whatever in psp 8. I've tried importing them like text brushes, but they don't seem to work when I do. Do you think you could explain how for me? I really like these textures, by the way. :)
The textures in this post are brushes; you just use them like any other brush you install. That particular example was made in about 5 seconds on a square filled with #cc9933 (I think) with a new layer at blend mode screen and 100% opacity and I just applied the brus in that layer in the color black. That made the kinda gold tapestry looking thing.
Full color images in jpg or png format aren't meant to be imported. People use them with the base image as layers (usually multiply, screen, or overlay) at various opacity levels. You might want to check the memories over at icon_tutorials. There's a lot of info over there on various icon making techniques.
You can teach an old dog new tricks. I had some clue what a mask is, but had not ventured into the puzzling world of custom brushes and masks in photoshop. Thanks for the textures, the brushes, and the tutorials that even one of the white-haired folks can follow!
You're very welcome! Your first attempts are a lot nicer than mine, that's for sure (though it doesn't hurt that Auron and Tidus are pretty to look at, I'm sure.)
And it's cool meeting another icon maker who isn't young enough to be my kid. :)
And it's cool meeting another FF fan who isn't young enough to be one of my friends' kids. Auron -- the "old man" who's our age -- yowch!
I had this little project going to take all the kitschy lines from FFX and make LJ icons out of them -- the short declarative sentences of sound bites tend to work well as bumper stickers. Originally I was simply collecting Auron and Lulu zingers, since I like their acerbic wit. Now I'm afraid that your toys and tips and tools are inspiring me to start over with the script from the beginning.
Oh well, I needed to do something while listening to blitzbaseball on the radio!
Nice little project! :) Sorry if the inspiration of the toys and tips will distract you, heh. This icon and resource thing is a great way to procrastinate and play, that's for sure!
And yes, it's hard to be an older fan of games -- or anime, manga, and graphic novels for that matter. It's not like I ever fit in with the other suburban moms, sigh!
I like Auron, too. I actually don't play the games but my son is a big gamer, especially the RPG ones, and I hear lots and lots about the gameplay. He regularly hauls me in to see the gameplay and ingame vids, etc. As a writer, I'm impressed with the scope and originality of the Final Fantasy series. I can see why it has achieved such popularity.
Most welcome! And you used one. Cool! I wasn't sure how useful they would be but I thought they looked like they'd be fun to play around with, either as a masking brush or just an accent color.

It shows that that community is deleted... but I'll try to figure something out for them.
Thanks for answering my question, and with that, I'll be taking both sets of brushes. :)

I love the swirls, they are so versatile too :-)
