Paint Shop Pro will only import gradients in GRD format. If you make a gradient in a later version of PSP (the .pspGradient format) and want to use it in an older version of PSP, you'll have to export the new gradient and then import it into the older program.

But that's easy to do (if kinda tedious...)

HOW-TO:

01. After downloading your GRD zip file, unzip it into your PSP program's gradient folder.

02. In the palette toolbar, select the gradient fill option. [screenshot]

03. Click on the gradient that's displayed and the Material Properties dialog box will pop up. Click on the "edit" button. [screenshot]

04. The Gradient Editor dialog box will pop up. Click on "Import." [screenshot]

05. The Import dialog box will pop up. By default, it opens up in your program's Gradient folder. If that's not where you've placed your unzipped files, you'll need to change the directory. Find the *.grd file you want to import and click "Import." [screenshot]

06. That's it! Close the Gradient Editor dialog box, and you should see your newly import gradient. [screenshot]

Repeat for every gradient you want to add.

=============================

As far as I know, there's no way to import a batch of gradients; it has to be done one at a time.

(Edited to clarify that in my PSP 7 and PSP X, even if I drop a bunch of .grd into the gradients subfolder, I still have to add them one at a time. It looks as if this works a little differently in PSP 8 though.)

You can have gradients in folders outside the program's Gradient folder, but you have to tell PSP where to look for them:

-- From the menu, click on "File" then "Preferences" and then on "File Locations."
-- The "File Locations" dialog box will pop up.
-- From the File Types list on the left, select Gradients
-- Two default file locations are listed. To add to that list, click on "Add."
-- Select the required folder, then click "OK."

If you have a lot of .grd files you can just move them to the gradient file and it should show up in the pallet. Make sure you put it in the right gradients folder though. It works like that in PSP 8, can't tell for sure in other versions.

Thanks for the tip on that. I'll have to give that a try and see how it works in PSP7 and PSPX.

Is there any way to input a gradient that's been saved as a .jpeg or .png?

Sorry for the delay in responding! The answer is no, because a gradient is a program script, not an image. You can, however, recreate the gradient from the jpg/png image by using the color dropper to pick out the colors that were used to make it. Obviously, this works best when there's only a few colors. :)
