General Resources: Picture Grunge

Assorted resources used on this experiment (yes, I've been playing with Daz Studio :) ) I found the photo edge tutorial here. If you don't have the Eye Candy 3.1 plugin, this site has a legal download.

Experiment time!

I have uploaded lots of photo-ish brushes, and so I went through them and pulled five I like and use the most. I think this set includes brushes from posts as far back as April 2005.

However, I've edited these brushes a bit. Whether you use them as masking brushes or just select-delete the solid black area, they should work a little more cleanly than the older versions.

Edited to add an .abr set (PS CS2) from the lovely [info]nina79!

PSP Brushes, more easy frames (+ tutorial)

  • Jul. 22nd, 2006 at 3:20 PM
Between my host provider having frequent technical issues and my wireless connection flaking out practically on a daily basis, getting anything uploaded or updated on any of my sites has been a pain. Blah.

Since the last batch of easy frame brushes was fairly popular, I'm adding a second set that's more polaroid-ish looking and with enough space at the bottom to add text, if desired. I've also tossed in a couple little lipstick kiss accent brushes for a kissy-kissy thing on the frames; again, if desired. AND, as a bonus, I'm including a tutorial on how to make these things since it's really easy.

PSP frame brushes, colorful icon bases

  • Jul. 7th, 2006 at 11:07 AM
It's a TGIF resources post! A set of 50 colorful stock image bases and a set of 15 easy frame brushes -- another one of those sets for those who are too busy/lazy/whatever to make their own. The brushes set is mostly frames but it also has a few fading-edge circles and diagonal shapes with slight drop shadow edges as well.

The easiest way to use the frame brushes is to create a new layer over your base, layer blend mode set to normal at 100% opacity, then use the flood tool to fill the layer with the color white, and apply the brush (on the same layer, just to make this clear for the newer icon makers) in the color black (well, any color really, black is just more common.)

Then use your select tool, select the solid black portion, hit the "delete" key, and then go to "Selections" on the menu and click on "None."

The advantage of using layers is that you can easily move your base images around to fit the frame(s). The shapes are meant to be used as masking brushes.

Edited to add an ABR version! Several people have sent me .abr versions of my brushes. There's not a whole lot, but you can check them out here.

Photo Frame Textures/Bases

I thought I'd uploaded these ages ago, but I guess I didn't. There's 38 textures/bases, all in *.png format and all made from stock images.
